Review: McDonald's Hokkaido Salmon Burger

Konichiwa!!! The Hokkaido Salmon Burger is back for grabs in Mcdonald’s! So, we decided to get one for takeout. *not a sponsored article*

The Sight

As we unwrapped the wrapper, we could see the golden brown panko-crusted fried salmon patty, sliced white onions and chopped white cabbages. All these are held together by two soft buns with loads of white and black sesame seeds.

The Sound

“Crush! Crush! Crush!” music to our ears — light crisp outer and fresh vegg.

The Taste

Like all salmon dishes, the crispy battered pink salmon patty has that unique salmon taste that’s slightly stronger than normal and some might consider ‘fishy’. So, if you are not a fan of fishiness, this burger might not be the right one for you. However, the roasted sesame mayonnaise sauce did help to mask the fishy taste from the Hokkaido salmon. The thick slices of shredded white cabbages and the thinly cut onions gave an extra crunchiness to the burger. After a few munches, the smell of the onions gets stronger and it might overwhelm your taste buds. Do be aware that you might develop bad breath for a period of time if your burger has too many onions!

The Verdict

It was not that “oishi” and there was no memorable moment that gave us the vibes of being in Hokkaido other than the fact that it is a salmon burger. However, the roasted sesame mayonnaise was definitely a great choice to complement the patty. Overall, it was a filling meal but we felt that it was not worth the hype of it. There’s definitely better salmon burgers out there!
