Serving magical dishes

Le Jardin is a French concept restaurant located in Fort Canning Park. The exterior can be described as out of a fairytale book, with luscious greenery and french-style furniture. Being inside the restaurant felt as if we'd travelled out of Singapore and to a European country.

As expected of a restaurant, the price of the food items are slightly pricier than the other café restaurants we have reviewed. We ordered Eggs Benedict ($21.90), Fig & Salted Caramel French Toast ($21.90), Mermaid Tears ($8.90) and Yuzu Shaken Tea ($8.90).

Fig & Salted Caramel French Toast

This french toast consists of caramelised fig, toasted almond, smoked bacon and pomegranate. As the name suggests, the french toast is a little salty but sadly, the one we got was slightly charred toast which makes it difficult for us to taste the sweetness of the caramel. The fig wasn’t exactly caramelised. But the toast was really fluffy. It would be better if the french toast was coated with more eggs as it’s currently more buttery than eggy. Overall, we would say the dish is more salty than sweet. The taste isn’t really that amazing but the plating certainly justifies the price.

Eggs Benedict

The Eggs Benedict comes with poached eggs, smoked salmon, crumpet muffin and hollandaise. If you want to, you can add on a half boston lobster for an additional charge of $18. The blue plate that this dish was served in certainly made the colours pop. As all eggs benedict should be, the poached eggs were extra flowy. The crumpet muffin also has a really chewy texture. As you break open the poached egg, the muffin soaks up the flowy yolk. The smoked salmon also adds flavour to the dish which piques the appetite.

Mermaid Tears

Mermaid Tears is essentially butterfly pea tea with freshly squeezed lemon juice with sugar syrup. The drink comes in 3 glass bottles; the butterfly pea tea, an empty bottle and the lemon juice. The fun part of this drink is that you get to mix these together and see how the blue butterfly pea tea changes colour to purple. Definitely a fun experience!

Yuzu Shaken Tea Korean Yuzu Puree. Jasmine Tea & Lemon Juice

The Yuzu Shaken Tea was served in a tall champagne glass. It’s ingredients includes Korean yuzu puree, jasmine tea and lemon juice. It’s refreshing and thirst quenching - perfect for a hot day!

The Verdict

Le Jardin is certainly the place to visit if you want a fairytale experience. The service was top notched together with the floral-decorated interiors. Food plating was exceptional but the taste didn’t quite match up. Certainly delicious but not as delicious as one would expect. Maybe the fairytale dream made us raise our expectations on their food? But their drinks are fun to experience. We would say it’s the experience and ambience at Le Jardin which makes it their selling point.
