Review: Hoshino Coffee

As Christmas approaches our cravings for all things sugary grows. That’s why we headed down to Hoshino Coffee at Raffles Holland V for some French toast and soufflé pancakes.

Strawberry French Toast ($12.90++)

The cube-shaped French toast was served with slices of strawberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Dashed with icing sugar, a creamy white cream and topped with mint leaves for some greenery. The charredness of the french toast gave it a gentle crisp to its fluffiness. The warm toast and cold ice cream just makes the perfect blend of lukewarm sweetness in each bite. Sweet and sourness is brought to the table with the cream and strawberry. It would have been better if more cream or maple syrup was used as the french toast by itself was a bit dry.

Matcha Pancake Soufflé Style - Single ($13.80++)

The soufflé pancake was 90% covered with matcha cream and finished with a scoop of matcha ice cream, adzuki beans (red beans) and whipped cream with matcha powder garnishing. And of course, not forgetting a small cup of maple syrup placed at the corner of the plate. The pancake was very fluffy and jiggly. The soft insides definitely melts in one’s mouth. For sure a must have for matcha lovers! The bitterness and sweetness of the matcha adds contrast to the pancake. While the small beans added just the right amount of extra sweetness to the dish. We couldn’t stop savouring this dish until the plate is clean.

The Verdict

Hoshino Coffee is a well-established chain which serves delicious aromatic dripped coffee and Japanese Western fusion cuisine. However, they also have a wide variety of desserts served in the restaurant which ranges from soufflé pancakes and pot-baked soufflé to cakes and many more! And, they offer seasonal new dessert items especially during festive seasons. One is definitely spoiled for choice. If you ever crave for any sweet desserts and come across any of the Hoshino Coffee branches, head in and give it a try! If you are having desserts after the main courses in the restaurant, we recommend you to ask the staff to serve your desserts halfway into your main course as it takes a while (15 - 20 minutes) to be ready for serving.
