Review: Hammee's Burger

Located at Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre is an affordable gourmet stall Hammee’s Burgers that sells delicious freshly made burgers. We ordered their signature Crispy Fried Chicken Burger which was very popular among their patrons. We also got some tarter totes to complete the meal.

The Sight

A golden-brown deep fried thick chicken thigh patty, coleslaw and their homemade orangey-yellow sauce are sandwiched between 2 toasted soft burger buns. Crispy tarter totes were scattered next to the burger and we also got a few packets of chilli and tomato sauce to go with it.

The Sound

As we indulged ourselves in the flavours of the burger, we could hear the crisp texture of the patty and the crunchiness of the slaw.

The Smell

The fragrance of the freshly-made buns and the aroma of the high fire due to the chicken thigh wafted into our noses. Making us drool even before trying out the dish.

The Taste

The buns were very soft and had a starchy potato taste which made it different from the usual plain bread. The chicken thigh was so tender that it melted in one’s mouth. The juices from the chicken oozes out as you take a bite making it irresistible. Although present, we could only taste a bit of the spice which enhances the flavour of the already well-marinated chicken patty. The homemade sauce was definitely the highlight of the dish. It had a slight tanginess but was sweet as well, adding extra umami to the entire burger. If you like to add more spice to your burger, you can opt for the spicy or the extra spicy option!

The Verdict

After trying out their well-known burger at the Hammee’s Burgers, we finally understand why the stall has been patronised by so many customers. The burgers are not only of great quality but of reasonable prices! Not only are they sumptuous, they are quite filling too. The downside of the dish is that the burger meal does not come with sides but is served in an al-carte style. Hence, additional charge is needed to top up the burger with sides (e.g. tartar totes, fries). Long queues are expected especially during lunch hours as it is frequent by office workers. Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre can be slightly inconvenient for those taking public transport as it is a bit of a walk from the nearest bus stop and MRT station (Commonwealth). But, if you ever chance upon it, take the escalator up and savour some amazing burgers. :)
