Review: Bondi Green

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Grand Union Canal in Paddington is Bondi Green. Bondi Green is by far the biggest venue that is part of the Daisy Green Collection. The interiors feature pink accents with lush greenery. Food on the menu goes by the values of freshness, quality and simplicity. It combines Mediterranean ingredients with pops of Asian flavours and textures.

For our visit, we tried the Winter Green Risotto.

The Sight

As the name suggested, the risotto came in shades of green. Every green from the forest green of the risotto to the deep olive green of the crispy leaves are complemented with the pink plate. There were also fresh peas and pistachios added.

The Smell

There wasn’t much of a smell to it — at least not noticeable for us.

The Sound

Relatively quiet dish unless you’re a loud eater.

The Taste

It is surprisingly light on the palette with just the right amount of vegan parmesan for that rich and creamy texture of a risotto. The porridge-like consistency of the risotto just sticks to every corner of your mouth and the flavours linger. Simple but cheesy. The crispy leaves add a contrasting texture to the mushy risotto texture. Similar to Korean roasted seaweed snacks but with more crispness to it, the crispy leaves made us feel like we were snacking while having our meal. Just the best of both worlds!

The Verdict

Overall, whether you are a vegan or not, you’ll definitely enjoy this unique risotto. However, the portion could have been a little more for the price and considering the fact that it is a meal. If you’re a big eater, we would suggest you take the opportunity to order more and try out their other dishes too.
